Before you watch the video, write a short text about America. Have you ever been to America? If yes, what was it like? If no, what do you imagine it to be like? Do you want to go there? What comes to your mind first if you hear the word "America"?
I have never been to America, but I have a lot of ideas about it from school, movies and from what other people told me. I imagine everything to be very big there, bigger than here. I have heard that food is very different there, and that you have to pay a lot of money to be allowed to go to university. I really want to visit America! I would like to see New York (maybe I can meet one of my favourite movie stars there) and Washington, and I want to go to the places where they have summer all year. I want to drive along their endless motorways and see all the land with no people and no civilisation on it.

          • travel

Now think about what you just saw in the video. Try to answer the questions below by interpreting what you heard from the girl.

        de
        1. Why do you think the girl's voice becomes so high?

          • I don't understand the question! This is her normal voice.

          • It is to symbolise the hectic pace of her life.

          • So that the video is harder to understand and students have to listen more carefully.

        2. What happens after the girl says "slow down"?

          • Her voice gets slower and lower again.

          • She suddenly finds herself standing at the seashore.

        3. What does the girl think about contemporary America?

          • She likes it but she would rather live in Europe where everything is more peaceful.

          • She thinks it's too hectic. She would like to have more free time and less stress.

          • She hates it.

        4. What happens after the girl in the video says "I want this to stop"?

          • The scenery changes and suddenly she stands at the seashore.

          • Everything turns dark and there is a loud noise.

Now think about what you feel like. Do you sometimes have the same feelings as the girl in the video? What would you like to have more time for? Write a short text.
I don't feel too much under pressure most of the time, but sometimes I would like to have more free time so that I could do more of the things I really enjoy. I would like to have more time for doing sports, for example play basketball. Also, I would love to read more books and go on holidays with my friends more often. Although I see them every day at school, it often feels like we are barely talking to each other. It is because we have so many things to do every day!

Well done! How about a game of memo now? It will be fun and you can repeat the words you studied above!
