"Alan" is the subject. He is doing something.

Satzbau und Wortstellung

Die grundlegendsten Funktionen von Wörtern innerhalb eines Satzes sind Subjekt, Prädikat %und %(grammar)Objekt.
Was ist ein Subjekt?
Jeder Satz muss ein Subjekt haben: Alan is coming. Who is coming? Alan.
"Alan" ist das Subjekt. Er tut etwas.
What is an Object?
I like chocolate. What do you like? Chocolate.
"Chocolate" is the object.
"I" is the subject: Who likes chocolate? I do.
What is a Predicate?
Mary is cooking dinner. What is Mary doing? Cooking.
"Is cooking" is the predicate. All the parts that grammatically belong to the verb are part of the predicate. This means: A predicate can be either only one word or several words. For example: cooks; is cooking; was cooking; cook can all be predicate of a sentence.
Was ist ein Objekt?
I like chocolate. What do you like? Chocolate.
"Chocolate" ist das Objekt.
"I" ist das Subjekt: Wer mag Schokolade? Ich.
Was ist ein Prädikat?
Mary is cooking dinner. What is Mary doing? Cooking.
"Is cooking" ist das Prädikat. Alle Wörter, die grammatisch gesehen zum Verb gehören, sind Teil des Prädikats. Das bedeutet: Ein Prädikat kann entweder nur aus einem oder aus mehreren Wörtern bestehen. Zum Beispiel: cooks; is cooking; was cooking; cook können alle als Prädikat eines Satzes dienen.
To build a sentence, put the words in this order: Subject – Predicate – Object
Um einen Satz zu formen, bringe die Wörter in folgende Reihenfolge: Subjekt – Predikat – Objekt
  • I call you.
  • The girl hits the boy.
  • She catches the ball.
  • They hate coffee.
Note:
  • Adverbs of time and place are usually put at the end of a sentence: I live in New York.

Only if you want to emphasise a special time or place, you put it at the beginning: Now I'm going!

If you have both an adverb of time and of place, the adverb of place comes first! The rule is: Place before time! I am going home now.

  • Adverbs of frequency usually come in front of the main verb: She often comes late.

Exception: In combination with the verb "to be" they have to be used after the verb: She is often late.
Merke:
  • Adverbien der Zeit und des Ortes stehen normalerweise am Ende eines Satzes: I live in New York.

Nur wenn du einen bestimmten Ort oder eine bestimmte Zeit betonen möchtest, dann stelle sie an den Anfang: Now I'm going!

Wenn du sowohl ein Adverb des Ortes als auch der Zeit hast, kommt das Adverb des Ortes zuerst! Die Regel lautet: Ort vor Zeit! I am going home now.

  • Adverbien der Häufigkeit stehen normalerweise vor dem Verb: She often comes late.

Ausnahme: In Kombination mit dem Wort "to be" müssen sie nach dem Verb stehen: She is often late.
